Sony ECM-31 HVC Electret Condenser Microphone - Circa 1970's
CA$25 / week
The ECM-31HVC is a telescoping electret microphone designed especially for use with the Sony HVC series video cameras. It can also be used with other cameras including the CCD-G5 and the Betamovies. The telescoping shaft allows the directional microphone to be extended from 10¾ to 19½ inches. Often seen in the hands of hosts on game shows and sporting events its miniature size and extending shaft offers numerous ways to keep the hands discreet during an interview situation. Dampened to resist external vibration. Power is supplied from the encased 1.5 volt battery (supplied). Two finishes are available for the ECM-31 type microphone, silver or black. The silver is the ECM-31M and it has a 8.5 foot cord and is designed to be mounted on a stand. Please specify when ordering.
An electret microphone is a type of electrostatic capacitor-based microphone, which eliminates the need for a polarizing power supply by using a permanently charged material. An electret is a stable dielectric material with a permanently embedded static electric charge (which, due to the high resistance and chemical stability of the material, will not decay for hundreds of years). The designation "electret" comes from electrostatic plus magnet.
